Stamtec’s factories, with some of the largest machining and fabrication capabilities in the world, have recently produced some of the largest unitized frame presses ever built. They now offer a GTX-400, 440 ton unitized frame press, and recently installed three 1100 ton unitized frame presses for Arkansas Steel Associates in Newport, AR. To the modern press-user, unitized frames provide many advantages, and very few disadvantages, in comparison to traditional tie-rod construction. Of course, some large bed presses MUST be built with tie-rod construction because of shipping and handling considerations, but with modern-day transportation and rigging methods, the unitized frame press is a viable alternative more than ever. Here are some of the advantages of the unitized frame press: Deflection, stretch, and rigidity characteristics that meet or exceed that of tie-rod constructed presses No chance of "gapping" because of loose tie-rods. Less costly to build (less machining, fitting, assembly, disassembly, and handling at the press builder’s factory) Potentially less overall cost to ship (e.g. less ocean freight cost, less trucks and less handling time.) Far less set-up time at the customer’s plant (less handling, assembly, fitting, etc.) Less chance for error during set-up (less handling, assembly, fitting, etc.)
