2 Point Gap Frame Press (GL2 Series)
The Stamtec GL2 two point gap frame press (a.k.a. OBI / C frame) was designed for stamping large parts or long progressive die parts that require deeper or more complex forming, at high single stroking rates or in continuous mode, using either blanks or coil stock. The slide is guided by six (6)-point full-length box type gibs, providing excellent control of slide alignment and accuracy throughout the entire stroke.
Stamtec’s Link Motion Drive technology is standard on the GL2. With link motion, the slide velocity decreases by up to 40% during the working portion of the stroke, so the material flows more effectively. During the non-working portion of the stroke, slide velocity increases up to 40% thereby maintaining high production rates. The result is a better quality part produced at higher production rates. In addition, slower speed through the working stroke reduces die impact, punch penetration, snap-through, noise, and vibration, thereby increasing machine and die life.

At the same forming velocity, productivity can be increased by 20-40% over conventional presses.
As the graph at the right shows (GL2 D-Type) the slide velocity slows as it approaches the tonnage rating point by 35%-40% as compared to a convention crankshaft motion.
If off-center loads are applied across the slide, the hydraulic overload system applies full oil pressure where required to maintain parallelism, for consistent stamping quality and longer die life.
